Czech IW Foundation would like to say a big thank you to all friends abroad, who decided to help with the abused puppies saved in Czech. Sharing the information, sending donations and offer homes is much appricated.
At the moment the puppies are treated against worms, they will be treated against the outer parasits as well as giardias. They are now slowly getting used to a proper food, first they need a diet to prepair their instestinals and as soon as possible they will get a diet to help their joints and bones to recover. It is not possible yet to say, when they will be ready to go to new homes, but two of them probably quite soon, after that necessary treatment is done.
The Czech IW Foundation works hard now on saving both parents of these puppies as well.

Lambs after a week
It is unbelievable how puppies condition improved in one week. Puppies are still fed a diet focused on the digestive apparatus but gradually begin to receive food for large breed puppies and feeding each receive probiotics. Following examination of droppings will be done not only for presence of parasites but also verify ability to digest fats and proteins. Puppies have been treated against external parasites.
After week we have puppies weighed and weight up from 3 to 4.5 kg. The weight gain is involved rehydration, the pups was indeed in a poor condition and very dehydrated. Heaviest is Andula, female with red collar - 15.5 kg, smallest is Anděla "Bone", female with a purple collar - 12.5 kg. Currently, the most affected dog is Mita, black collar, which will have to undergo some tests and the results will decide on further action. Bertie with blue collar, dog with most disabilities hind limbs, probably had of the right thigh bone injury and he will have to undergo further examination.
All puppies have ears, legs and head a large number of older skin defects, with some pups we must even carry out repeated local treatment, healing is well underway.
It is gratifying that all puppies are cheerful, playful, curious, well-accept food and grateful for every caress. We attach some photos of today. When you browse photos, take into account that puppies are now almost 5 months old ..... born November 21, 2011

Thank you all for your help in improving the puppies.
Delayed growth and development is still considerable, though on the photographs that may not be obvious. So we have taken photo of the puppy in the same place with a 5 month old dog to compare.

Good news ... the result of examination of Parasitology droppings puppies "Lambs" - negative.
Digestion of essential nutrients, especially fats, it is not correct. Puppies had a long time very few and poor feeding. It will take some time before their metabolism in order.
23.4.2012
Puppies condition is constantly improving! They are receiving dietary supplements and we are adding an increasing amount of granules of kibble for large breed puppies. Also, we give them specific products to aid digestion and to promote the musculoskeletal system.
Parasitological examinations were performed with negative results but fat digestion is still insufficient.
In the second week, the gain of weight gain was 3.5 kg on average, from 2.5 to 4.5 kg for each puppy.
Nina (yellow collar) and Bertie (blue collar) weigh most (19 kg). Bones (purple collar) still has the lowest weight - 15.5 kg.
The most affected one remain Míťa dog (black collar) and Bertie (blue collar). But even in these dogs we notice improved position of the rear legs and they also improve in movement. Both dogs receive rehabilitation of hindquarters.
All puppies are cheerful, playful, interested in everything, they are fearless, affectionate and they welcome every visit. On the photos they may give the appearance of normal healthy pups, but their bones are weak and the weight is about half the usual weight of pups at this age.
Puppies are now in such condition that it is possible during the next days to start protective vaccination and then it will be possible to transfer some puppies to their permanent homes. We have written to the candidates who have offered puppies’ home and care and gradually we will decide where every puppy will leave. In the interest of the puppies we choose people who are experienced. Offers even come from abroad, which we greatly appreciate. However, we will try to place puppies in the Czech Republic mainly because then we can provide assistance when needed and of course stay in close contact with new owners.
Last week we prepared and sent a complaint to the court and the complaint regarding the suspension and revocation of business license, tax incentive to carry out inspections, notification to the appropriate Department of the Agriculture and a request for an investigation to remove the puppies parents to the Regional Veterinary Administration. We had negotiations were several representatives of these organisations.
The primary challenge is to ensure that both parents, a dog and a bitch will receive good care and good permanent home.
A lot of interest in these puppies was generated in people all over the world and in the Czech Republic. We received not only moral but also financial support. Both are very highly appreciated. Breeding so very malnourished and neglected puppies is really hard in all respects. Thank you all for helping us to give the Lambs a start into normal dog's life, which has been so much delayed.

Míťa
A lot has happened this week. Two puppies, Angel and Alf, went to their new homes so mom Teresa lost two of her babies!
Alfík and Angel went to excellent and experienced families. The first reports say that they are joyful puppies that are getting well socialized. We believe that they will make their new owners very happy.
Tereza is a little sad now, eats a little worse, and it is clear that she experiences some things for the first time. She started going for walks, even though she is still bit insecure. The best thing she knows in the world are biscuits. She is playing with puppies and she is a good mother. The moment she was reunited with her puppies was really beautiful and touching. Terezka is awaiting a medical examination, we have concerns about potential hormonal disorder and above all we want to verify that all her organs are working properly. Even after almost half a year after giving birth to puppies, her mammary glands are not completely regenerated. It is obvious that Terezka nursed her puppies as long as she could - until she has been separated from them. Short time after that she was repeatedly mated. Sadly, the father of the puppies remains in the old place. The Veterinary Administration did not recommend removing him, they did not consider that there is any reason for it. Even with Teresa the "only" violation they found was that of the Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture č.5/2009 regarding the protection of animals during shows and in breeding. They ascertained that she was repeatedly used for breeding before the 17th months of age. That puppies father did not meet the age limit during first mating and was only “mature” by several days during second series of mating is not a sufficient offense for Veterinary Administration. They inspected the dog and place where he is kept. The dog is very skinny but the inspector did not even touch him to check that.
This, fourth week, the average weight gain was 3 kg, from 2.5 to 3.5 kg. Bertie weighs most – 25 kg. The smallest is still Mita, 21 kg, but this week we see very good progress in him, particularly when it comes to his hind legs. Bertie is growing most but unfortunately his hind legs are still very bad. One femur was probably damaged in some accident and therefore he has been using his other leg a lot more. Such increased workload combined with lack of nutrition and care weakened the femur so it grew completely straight and the muscles are still weak. Bertie, however, moves without pain and, surprisingly, as fast as the other puppies. He does not get tired and he does not show any pain when handled.
We also met with new owners who took home Nina. She will join another wolfhound that the family already has. Kosticka has been booked but it may not be completely certain and she may become free for a good home. Andula and Bertie have very interested prospective owners and there is also interest in Mita.
We received last week some nondescript response from Tax Authorities but it is good that the case was taken into account there. We are pleased that the case is being looked at by the municipal council in Beranov, but their opinion is still unknown. We also got answer from environmental agency Magistrate Jihlava to which we send notification regarding taking over Tereza because she was in need of acute health aid and foster care. We are in contact with the Veterinary Administration who are promising that the case will be further investigated by the inspectors. Sadly, the “breeder” has now a litter of dashhounds so we doubt he will care at all for the unnecessary to him now wolfhound dog.
In the next week we will continue efforts to rescue the dog and mom Terezka will undergo further tests. Treatment will follow depending on the results. Of course we will continue caring for the puppies.
Thank you all for your support and interest. The site gradually publishes the names of donors. If we missed you name on our list, we are very sorry. We do not always have full details of the donor and some donations come with delay.
We are very happy that the puppies and their parents generated so much interest. It is nice that a lot of people want to come and see the dogs in person and give them some attention. We accept everyone if we only can but sometimes it is really not possible. One reason is lack of time but the most important reason is that the puppies and their mom really need to get acquainted gently with new people, but they also need peace and rest. They are not able to handle several visit every day and for obvious reasons we have to prioritise those who are inquirying about offering the puppies new homes. We must get to know them personally, not everything can be discussed by phone or mail.
Thank you that you continue watching the fate of these puppies and their parents.
We managed to push through a proposal to removed female Tereza, the mother of the puppies "Lambs." Yesterday she was officially put into the foster care Irish Wolfhound Foundation.
Unfortunately dog, puppies father, remains with owner.

15.5.2012
The history of the Lambs is coming practically to an end - at least from the perspective that we managed to rescue all the puppies and provide for them and both of their parents. So far, we think that everything went really well.
It is another fact that such situations should not be happening at all and if they do there should be at least faster solutions from the authorities.
All puppies went to their new homes. We still can not say that they look like they should for their age, at the moment they look only partially like wolfhounds. Their health and fitness improved significantly and they more than doubled their weight in the five weeks. All the puppies went to people who already have or had a wolfhound, to people who love this breed, who understand it and have the required conditions. All the puppies went to new homes equipped with food to which they have become accustomed, and all the necessary supplements. We hope and believe that all puppies will do well and bring us a lot of happiness. Since puppies got to know their owners beforehand and already once moved around their transfer to new homes was problem-free.
Teresa, mom of the puppies had surgery this week. Laboratory results indicated ongoing inflammation and repeated ultrasound showed abnormal uterine contents. Her clinical condition deteriorated. We wanted to indulge Teresa with more time to get accustomed to new conditions but it was not possible to wait. Such a condition is life threatening. We are not sure of the reason for the inflammation. Since she was mated repeatedly, this could be one reason for fetal death. Her bad living conditions, lack of care, poor food and the burden of pregnancy and rearing of pups in an exceptionally early age also had effect on her general condition. Tereska managed surgery well and we hope that recovery will be successful.
The biggest success of this week was that we managed to rescue father of the puppies. We discussed this repeatedly with the Veterinary Administration but with no success, we only got vague promises for the future. After long and complex negotiations with the owner and his family, we managed to buy the dog. He was named Joe. He was recently getting some food from the relatives of the owner so he is not as skinny as when we took the puppies. He is still quite hungry and thin though. Joe is very friendly, but he becomes truly wild when he sees food and he drinks every time he comes close to water. He will probably remember for a long time lack of food and water. We plan to find a good and permanent new home for Joe.
Of course we will be providing further information about the case in the future. As we wrote earlier, was made a few applications for examination/control to various authorities. We have yet not received any reply from the Regional Veterinary Administration, Magistrate and the prosecutor office in Jihlava. Although we still have not been told anything of substance, all documents will be registered and will continue demanding that something is done. Although our complaints have not produced any useful effects, maybe they will aid that such treatment of animals will be avoided in the future.
We also want to thank all the breeders that currently have puppies and followed our plea and did sell any wolfhounds to this man though he tried and called many breeders around.
We will continue providing photos here and on facebook. Our experience and our methods may in the future be useful for someone who would engage in a similar case.
We want to thank everyone who offered puppies a new home. It is possible that we missed to answer some mails, in which case we apologize very much, but really was not an easy time to manage everything. This case aroused enormous interest literally around the world. Offers of help and moral support really helped us a lot. We are pleased that so many are watching and commenting photos of puppies and their parents and care about their fates. And of course help us with financial contributions, for which we really thank a lot. It is especially pleasing that the puppies got a lot of help and support from children. We would really like to thank 13 years old Lukáš Batalov and little sisters Szpotove who withdrew their coins from collecting boxes and donated these for the puppies.
We are really grateful for all support!
